Create a lightning Effect in Photoshop

Photoshop Lightning Effects Tutorials

1.Open a new Document 500×500

2.Select Gradient tool and style to Foreground to background now apply the Gradient.

3.Now go to Filter>Render>Different Clouds

4. To Create the Lightning we actually want the black portion to be white so what we need to do is Go to Image>Adjustment>Invert OR press Ctrl+i

5.After we invert the the previous layer we have the lighting in white,but its not what we want, so what we are going to do is go to Image>Adjustment>level and adjust the Inputs levels to 172-0.27-255 respectively

6. To add some more lightning effect in different direction lets create a new layer and apply the same method but this time apply the gradient from the top left corner

7.Now we have two lightning effect, but at the moment we can only view the new layer effect so what we need to do is change the layer mode to screen.

8.If you want to add some color like blue lightning or green lighting, our first step is to join the two layer into one single layer for that PRESS Ctrl+E

9.Now to give a color lightning effect, Go to Layer>New Adjustment layer>Hue/saturation and select the “use previous layer to create clipping mask” and then we make sure that we also select the colorize option

10. For this tutorial i Set the Hue setting to 236 Saturation to 25 and lightness to 0. You can use your own setting.
